Major Impact of the Year” for 2012 by a wide margin, garnering 102,827 votes, constituting 56% of total votes cast, thus eclipsing nominees Dolphy, Nora Aunor, Sharon Cuneta, and Bong Revilla. Vilma’s win had more impact because she bested nominees who were newsmakers during the first half of the year. Nora Aunor was on a comeback and just had her soap opera and Sharon Cuneta was in the news for her controversial transfer to TV5 and her Twitter war issues. Dolphy was very much a headliner because of his failing health and eventual demise. Despite stiff competition, Vilma Santos prevailed, via a landslide. A testament to her enduring charm and true star power. This win is even more memorable because the votes came from not just her active Vilmanians, but also from silent fans and admirers. A win that is legitimate, clean, and stripped of politics and hocus-pocus. A win that is worth cherishing.
