women in film honored at International Film Festival—Four women who have made a mark in Philippine cinema are being
honored with the first Diwata Awards in the 16th International
Women’s Film Festival on March 8, 5 p.m. at the Cine Adarna.
“The recipients of the Diwata Awards are
actress Rosa Vilma (Vilma) Santos,
writer Lualhati Bautista, movie producer Lily Yu Monteverde and
actress/producer Ma. Rosario “Charo” Santos-Concio. They have successfully
contributed to the growing original text on women sensibilities that aim to
empower the women who have been marginalized in traditional film text….

professionalism and creativity in acting has elevated the women roles she
performed into 3-dimensional complex human beings. She has elevated her
discipline into a powerful film element in creating space for the consciousness

“Diwata in Philippine images is likened
to the muse that inspires the artists in crystallizing their ideas, concepts
and conversations as they interact with their materials. The Diwata Awards are
bestowed on women who have outstanding contribution to their fields in film.
The Diwata Trophy is an inspired creation by artist Aba Lluch Dalena.”
